I no longer have a Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, or X account. Individual emails, newsletters, and podcasts are my preferred form of work-related communication and way of receiving academic news.
A 2023 blog post by “The Thesis Whisperer” on “the enshittification of social media for academics” helped me to better understand my growing hesitations towards using social media for academic work purposes. See also: “social media has changed – will academics catch up?” by Mark Carrigan.
Update: I am currently considering using Bluesky, but I remain a sceptic.
